Introduction to an Over-Thinking Dreamer

Hello to All..

The name is Avida Nola and I am a Senior Psychology major.  I already have my Associates in Psychology from Oklahoma City Community College as well as recently receiving my Medical Office Administration certificate in the Fall of 2016.  With that certification, I currently work at an Accident Care and Treatment Center in their Business Office department.  I plan to finish my complete Bachelor's Degree this Fall 2017...hopefully..

I am not quite sure where it will lead me once I am done, but this current position is a start to something.

I am a dreamer that gets lost in countless movies...I would say books, but movies are a fast-track version of books and I seem to carry enough time for those compared to reading.  Although I would love to get back into reading whenever my life allows me to.

My current obsession in films are the most recent ones: Passengers and La La Land.  Movies that make you think post-watch are definitely what intrigue me the most.  They may not be to others liking, but I sure do enjoy the sad, nostalgic kind of films.

Music speaks to my soul the way that movies do.  It's a wonder why I didn't mention it earlier.  It flows through my family, mainly my father who used to be in a band with his brothers and sister.  They are uber talented and they all practically learned instruments by ear, especially my dad.  The younger ones were lucky enough to learn it aside from doing so by ear.  I wish I was just as artsy as them, but one can dream.

Other than watching movies at home and going to the movies on my spare-time and listening to music, whenever the weather permits, I enjoy a mean rally of tennis.  I've played ever since I was nine years old, up until college and work prevented me from playing.

Aside from playing tennis as an activity, I also go to the gym whenever I have time after work or even before the break of dawn.  Because I enjoy exercising as much as I can, I am pretty interested in Nutrition, Health and Exercise.  Other than feeling and looking great, it is important to understand what the body is consuming and how it will affect you in the long run.

Traveling is also one that I have to add into my list of activities.  I crave for the adventure and experience of different cultures and societies.  I can even settle for just traveling within the states.  This country is so big, there is so much that it has to offer us.

Ending this note with a picture of one of the loves of my life.  Theodore Tubby at your service 😍.

  1. I love that description of movies as a fast-track version of books, Avida: that is so true! And sometimes they are just too fast, like with Game of Thrones. I really enjoy those books, and then it is fun to watch the TV show... but I honestly don't know how people can keep up with the plot by just watching the TV show; it goes soooo fast! And I hope this class will satisfy at least part of that craving for other cultures and societies... some people choose familiar reading in this class (and that's fun in its own way), but you can also choose to explore stories you've never heard of from places that are unfamiliar, and just see where the words take you! And Theodore Tubby could be your companion: maybe he could even make an appearance in a story this semester. There are dog legends from all over the world of course! Here's a search of the Freebookapalooza: so many dogs and hounds in there!

  2. Oh my goodness I LOVE THEODORE TUBBY.I have a dog as well that I would do anything for so I totally relate on your obsession with your own pup! My brother is just like you and loves movies, he actually wrote for his college movie reviews and now has a podcast about all of the movies in theaters! He loves La La Land as well! I haven't had the chance to see it yet, but it is on my to do list! He wasn't as big of a fan for Passengers though. I however am super excited to see it!

    1. Awe thanks! That's awesome that your brother has a podcast! What's it called? Let me know what you think of either of those films when you get a chance to see them! They may be typical but for some reason, they spoke to me lol.

  3. Hi Avida! I think it's great you're pursuing your bachelor's degree! I'm sure you've put in a lot of hard work and it WILL pay off! I'm not a huge movie-lover like you (or my mom), but I did see La La Land after it won all the Golden Globes. Some people might think it was sad that the two didn't end up together, but I guess I'm more of a pessimist in that way. Sometimes people just have to do what's best of them and move on, and you don't always get a happy ending. But sometimes you do, and those are the times to be cherished. I think it's awesome that you find time to play tennis and to read. I used to take tennis lessons when I was younger! As for reading, I try to read as often as I can, but I don't get a lot of spare time with school, work and other organizations I'm in.

  4. Oh my gosh Theodore Tubby is the cutest! I love dogs!! Anyway, you mentioned you like watching movies? Have you seen Arrival? I think it was also nominated for some Oscars, and it is really good! It's kind of sci fi like Passengers, and it definitely makes you think at the end! I also love traveling and hope to see the world someday! You're right, there's just so much to see!

  5. Hey Avida,
Its nice to meet you. I have to say, I love your dog, he is so adorable. On the subject of movies, can't say I feel the same, I would rather sink into a good book, otherwise I tend to over analyse physics, plot-holes and such. Do you prefer animated or live action movies, or do you not have a preference? If you are looking for a movie that really messes with your mind you should try "A Beautiful mind" or "Pans Labyrinth" both are beautiful movies you have to watch twice to make sense of them.

  6. Hi Avida! First of all, your dog is super cute. I think that is awesome that you already have your associates in psychology; that is my minor. I haven't seen Passengers or La La Land yet, but I really would like to! I've heard all good things about them. I'm the same as you with books and movies; I do enjoy to read, but movies are just quicker and easier to fit into my schedule. Although as I'm getting older, I can barely stay awake for movies now.. I feel like a grandma!

  7. Hi Avida! I think it's really cool that you play tennis. That is the one sport I wish I would have tried when I was younger. I also totally get not having enough time to read books. I'm challenging myself to read more. I know I could get through more material by watching the movies, but I think it's worth the trade-off to read. Also, wonderful dog. I can't wait to move off and get a dog.

  8. Hey Avida! I love your dog! He is so cute! It's really awesome that you already have a job and an idea of what you may do after graduation! Don't ever give up on your dreaming! I can't say I share the same love for movies that you do, but I am always up for a good book too (when time permits). I wish you the best of luck as you work toward your last semester!

  9. Hi! Your dog is adorable! I also love watching movies, and I really want to see La La Land because I have heard great things about it. I am sure there are so many paths you can take with a Psychology degree! Maybe even you could find a job to satisfy your love of travel! I am a Health and Exercise Science major so I am definitely with you on the importance of using your body to be active and being selective of what all you put into your body!

  10. Awww. Your dog is so cute! I'm a huge animal lover myself. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats, plus a Quaker parrot. I also really enjoy traveling and agree that even just traveling within the states can be enthralling. I do love going out of country though and hope in the next 10 years to be able to start traveling a lot more! Congrats on your degree!! That is a great accomplishment!

  11. Hello Avida! I am a pretty avid moviegoer myself as I try to make it to a matinee or student discounted show whenever possible. Your dog is adorable; as is the name you gave him. The style of your blog is definitely interesting and one I have not seen yet, very nice! Certainly sets your page apart from the others I have seen so far in this course.

  12. Hey Avida! First off, your puppy is SO CUTE! I miss my dog terribly. I too am a psychology major and the future is still up in the air for me as well! I understand your stress! It is so cool that you have so many certifications and degrees already though. I'm sure it will all work out in the end and good luck this semester!

  13. Hey Avida nice to meet you. First off your dog is super cute! That name is hilarious and it seems to fit your dog perfectly. That is awesome that you like to play tennis. That is one sport I have never really picked up but I have been wanting to lately. I too love movies that make you really think. A good movie that is like this is The Prestige with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. I definitely recommend it! Good luck this semester and on your future career!

  14. Hi Avida,

Your writing style is attention-grabbing that is for sure. I really like your Forbidden Love stories – really interesting way to make such an old and heroic story relevant and a good read. I have taken multiple psychology courses and I have really enjoyed all of them – I bet you understand people really well. Cool reads keep it up.

    Sincerely,

  15. Hey Avida! I really like the layout of your blog and the fonts that you customized it with. It's a lot fancier than mine haha. That's a great way to put the relationship between movies and books! I agree with you about the timing of reading and how easy it is just to watch a movie. I want to read a lot, but in downtime from school it can be hard to actually get myself to do so. I hope you are able to graduate this fall as planned! Good luck this semester!

  16. It's nice to meet you Avida! Your name is really pretty by the way. Good luck to graduating! I graduate in May, and it has been a long time coming. I'm ready to be done! Your puppy is so precious! I'm a huge dog person. I really like the layout of your blog, it's super cute. I agree with you on having time to watch a movie instead of a book. In another class I have to write a paper about a book I have read in the past and it occurred to me that since starting college, I have not had time to sit and enjoy a book. Hopefully after I graduate, I'll be able to do that again. Good luck this semester!

  17. First off, Avida Nola is the coolest name ever. It just rolls off the tongue. Also, I love movies too! I love reading, but since I’m studying film production, I love watching movies because I get a chance to see someone’s creative choices as far as lighting, camera style, and color schemes go. I also live the for the Academy Awards. But on a better note, I love your dog. I am most definitely a dog person. I try not to discriminate, but dogs are awesome.

  18. I can't believe Theodore Tubby is so cute! Those eyes are just begging for a treat. I haven't had a chance to see La La Land yet--it's sad and nostalgic? I didn't realize that! I like those kinds of movies too. If you like sad movies, you might like Pan's Labyrinth, which I recently watched. It's a little bit bloody, though.

    Nice to meet you!

  19. Nice to meet you! It sounds like you have been really busy with school and all of your hobbies! I hope you actually get to graduate soon! It is so hard to try to figure out all of your credits at the end before you graduate so you don’t get stuck with one class pending and get held back a whole semester. Your dog is really cute and I look forward to exploring your blog!

  20. Howdy, Avida! Nice to see another person with a great interest in movies. Since I took Film & Media Studies as a minor in my college years, I'm fascinated with the science of how they persuade you to feel and perceive certain ways. My favorite film is The Blues Brothers.

I envy you for having such an interest in health and exercise, since I cannot come up with a good health regiment for the life of me. I really should, but I'm so busy that I can't bring myself to exercise often. Maybe I could ask you for tips sometime!

  21. Theodore Tubby :o. What a beautiful dog and name B-)

Best of luck completing your degree! You can definitely do it :). I'm not much of a movie person, but I'm pretty interested in Passengers! Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much.

I hope you get to travel a lot in the future! I don't travel much honestly, but just going to different states is enough for me.

    Nice to meet you!

  22. Hi, Avida! You have such a unique name; I like it! Also, very adorable pup you have there. Look at those big eyes! I bet you can’t ever say no to those. I wish I was like you and enjoy exercising… it is a work in progress. Good luck to you and your future endeavors. You will do great things!

  23. Nice to meet you Avida! It sounds like you're already pretty accomplished! I hope you push through and graduate this coming Fall! I never thought about movies as fast-track books, but that's a good comparison. I love both reading and movies, but I would choose the movie over the book if the movie has some bomb visuals. One final thing; would you recommend Passengers? I have been strongly debating watching it, but I keep talking myself out of it lol.

  24. Hey Avida,
Nice to meet you! Your dog is absolutely adorable, oh, and the name is just perfect.
    Anyways,
Congrats on your Associate degree, and your Bachelor almost completed as well. That's really exciting, I'm sure! Also, it's cool that you love to play tennis. I played tennis in high school, though I haven't been playing as long as you for sure. It's definitely a fun, competitive game.
Good luck this semester and in the future!

  25. Hey Avida, Nice to meet you! Good job on getting your associates and now continuing to get your Bachelor's, sounds exciting! I enjoy traveling too and playing sports! I also have a furry friend called Zoey :) Good luck on completing your degree!

  26. It was very nice to meet you in this short introduction! Congratulations on all that you have accomplished so far and good luck in all that you plan to accomplish in the future! What you do is very interesting... is this something that you always aspired to or did it fall in your lap and it just really worked with what you want to do? Very cool!

  27. What a great name to a great dog! is there a backstory to it? I am a total do lover and I believe any person gets 10x better if they have one. I also love playing tennis but started it later in live. I played doubles in high school and loved how many cool people I met through it. Good luck and congrats on almost being done with school!

  28. Hello Avida! It is awesome that you are studying psychology. I am a senior and just now enrolled in my first psychology class and it is very interesting to learn about. Do you have any plans after college as far as graduate school or anything? I also love playing tennis but I am so bad at it unfortunately… Practice makes perfect though.

  29. Hi Avida! I love your name. I haven’t seen La la Land or Passengers, but I really want to see Passengers. I watched previews during other movies, and it looks like a must watch. I also really enjoy tennis. I haven’t played in a really long time though. I used to play with my grandpa when I was little. I also think it’s a fun sport to watch. Haha.

  30. Avida! Your name is so cool and your dog is ADORABLE. I've seen Passengers and thought it was really good, but I haven't yet seen La La Land. Though admittedly, it's definitely not the type of movie I would normally see so I'm not really sure it's even on my list. I love music too, though my family and I are really not very musically inclined at all. I wish we were more so, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be!
